With over 20 weapons, Halo Infinite has a lot of options for players to dole out death and destruction to the Banished who are stuck on Zeta Halo with you. With so much choice though, some players might be stuck trying to figure out which kind of rifle or weapon would work best while exploring and completing missions. With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of great weapons you should try to have in your arsenal at all times.

Battle Rifle

Seriously, don’t leave home without it. A common theme for Halo Infinite’s campaign weapons is that if it can do headshots, you should use it as much as possible, but the Battle Rifle’s precision and sheer stopping power can make it the most deadly weapon in the right hands. Normal brutes can be killed in two bursts if both are headshots, while grunts and jackals can be killed off in just one. It runs into some difficulty against shields, which means keeping a plasma or shock type weapon on your secondary is always handy (or a rocket launcher), but the Battle Rifle is still a fantastic weapon and a core pillar of any Halo player’s repertoire.

S7 Sniper/Skewer

We’re lumping both snipers together here because they both accomplish the same purpose, which is to deal swift death at insanely long ranges. Both weapons have their pros and cons. The S7 Sniper is more reliable and has a higher rate of fire, but does less damage, especially against bosses and shielded elites/brutes. The Skewer is a one shot, one kill affair on nearly every enemy, but only holds one shot at a time and experiences bullet drop over long distances, making it a high-risk, high-reward weapon. Also, the Skewer is the perfect vehicle destroyer, so if a ghost or banshee is giving you grief, a well-placed Skewer shot should sort them out.

Shock Rifle

Admittedly, the Shock Rifle’s ammo clip leaves a lot to be desired, but the damage output more than makes up for it. The Shock Rifle fires multiple shots in a circle together, which has the potential to do massive damage if all of them land as headshots. However, the Shock Rifle has the extra benefits of dealing shock damage to all enemies and vehicles in a nearby radius. If you want to disable a vehicle before grappling into it, the Shock Rifle is a solid shout, though the ability to headshot brutes and elites is also fantastic.

Plasma Pistol

Halo’s best ever “support” weapon is still just as strong in Halo Infinite as it ever has been in other Halo games. While the normal primary fire isn’t great, charging up your shots before letting loose automatically removes the shield of any target it hits, meaning they can then be opened up for easy headshot kills. On its own, the Plasma Pistol isn’t great, but on higher difficulties when paired with a Battle Rifle, the Plasma Pistol is almost necessary.

Energy Sword

Halo Infinite, like many Halo games before it, has two main melee weapons: the Energy Sword and the Gravity Hammer. For what its worth, the Grav Hammer is great for having fun, with the huge swings sending multiple enemies flying, but the Energy Sword is the big pick for those wanting to win. While it doesn’t quite one-kit-kill higher tier enemies, it does absolutely shred health and shields faster than weapons like the Bulldog Shotgun and others. Combined with the Grappleshot or Thrusters, you have the ability to close the distance and deal mega damage to anyone unfortunate enough to be near you.

The beauty of a game like Halo Infinite is that pretty much all of the weapons have their own uses and times to shine, it’s just known when to use those weapons effectively. However, the weapons we’ve highlighted here have enough versatility across the board to make them worthy of recommendation.

Halo Infinite is available on PC, Xbox Series X | S, and Xbox One.
