The former NXT UK Tag Team Champions, the Grizzled Young Veterans are set to be the latest in wrestlers to suffer from a rebrand under the WWE umbrella. WWE have gone out of their way to strip former mainstays of the independent scene of their prior workload by giving them drastic name changes to further cement the fact that they are now WWE’s property, nobody else’s.
In this instance the former Zack Gibson will now go by the name ‘Rip Fowler’ and his tag partner James Drake will become Jagger Reid. With two names that seem to be lifted straight out of an EastEnders script, this will certainly up the ante with the whole ‘Scouser’ gimmick that Gibson has especially made famous across the world.
WWE have already filed trademarks for both names and there’s currently no word on whether this means the GYV will be heading straight to the main roster this summer or sticking around as part of the NXT 2.0 Tag division.
Perhaps this will lead to an invigorated run for the Vets in WWE, only time will tell.
