God of War Ragnarok: How To Defeat The Hateful

God of War Ragnarok

There are multiple optional boss fights in God of War Ragnarok and The Hateful is one of them. You can take on The Hateful as part of a favour called Born From Fire. The Hateful is a recurring boss, meaning the option to fight the hateful little creature multiple times is there.

The Hateful is a hyper-aggressive opponent, meaning it can quickly overwhelm you if you don’t keep tabs on its attack patterns. It uses dual axes to fight, much like the Draugr fiends – a type of aggressive undead enemy throughout the game. The Hateful will also come at you alongside Draugr minions, so defeat these first before facing it solo. Minions can be easily defeated wtih freezing attacks.

The Hateful’s unblockable attacks are pre-warned via the red circle indicators, which means you’ll have to dodge those. Its most inconvenient attack isn’t actually an attack though – when it coats itself in fire and roars loudly, Kratos’ next attack will cause it to explode, blasting him into the nearest wall and dealing a fair amount of damage. The way to skirt around this issue is to simply hit The Hateful with a ranged attack. That’s easier said than done when The Hateful insists on getting up close and personal.

Healthstones are scarce inside The Hateful’s arena so save Spartan Rage for critical or low-health situations. The Hateful can and will conjure up a huge molten rock to launch towards Kratos which also burns and deals significant damage.

Keeping on the move is the best strategy to deal with The Hateful, and be prepared to dodge its unblockable attacks. Don’t get too greedy in terms of attacking and you’ll soon find yourself defeating The Hateful. Grab some Sovereign Coals and Dust of Realms for winning this boss fight.

God of War Ragnarok is available on PS5 and PS4.
