Fortnite‘s v19.20 update has been a massive one, with the introduction of Covert Cavern and a brand new currency changing things up in what has been a very dynamic season for new content. Unfortunately, though, players could only play it for ten minutes before the servers went into emergency downtime.

Fortnite issued an update to players to let them know that the game was going back into server downtime shortly after the servers had just gone back online.

As for why this might have happened, the most obvious thing is that the game was simply overwhelmed by player demand, especially if everyone was landing at the new POI. It’s basically The Grotto from Chapter 2 remade for Chapter 3. However, if Tilted Towers could return without the game having to go offline, it’s unlikely that a less in demand POI would cause such issues.

The likelihood is that some exploit or vulnerability was found in the game following the update, which is backed up by just how quickly the game went offline again. Any security issues or anything like it should always be dealt with as fast as possible.

Fortnite may be offline for a good while yet as Epic works to update the game and patch up what needs patching. Before that, you may as well read up on Klombos, everyone’s favourite addition to Fortnite.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
