Fortnite’s Battle Royale Mode Goes Free Next Week On Xbox One, PS4 & PC

It’s a game that’s all over the news at the minute, but Fortnite is doing more crazy things by offering its new mode as an entirely standalone experience.

Fresh off the back of some intern accidentally pressing the wrong button to open up cross-play and revolutionise the way console gamers interact with each other (if only for a few hours), Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode will go free from next week for all systems.

From September 26th, the 100 player mode will be completely free; a purchase of Fortnite is not required. If you happened to buy the game purely for the Battle Royale, though, you will be able to get a refund.

It’s a smart move from Epic, effectively making themselves the first widely available console game ahead of Battlegrounds et al. Just like its inspirations, however, cosmetic microtransactions are to be expected.

Fornite is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you can wait around for just under a year, it goes free-to-play in 2018.
