No, Fortnite is not playable in split-screen on Switch. The only platforms that support split-screen play are PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, and Xbox One.
Curiously, there is also no support for split-screen on PC. In addition, split-screen is not supported on either Android or iOS. Bear in mind that you can only play Fortnite split-screen in traditional Battle Royale and Zero Build, as Creative, Limited Time Modes, Save the World, and Ranked Modes are not supported.
As to why exactly the Switch doesn’t support split-screen, it simply comes down to raw power. As tech that wasn’t even that advanced in 2017 when it launched, the Switch struggles to run Fortnite as is, let alone without split-screen that tends to use up more resources. It’s a miracle that a game built on Unreal Engine 5 still works on Switch at all in 2024.
If you’re wanting to play split-screen on a Nintendo platform, you might have better luck when the Switch 2 rolls around.
Fortnite is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android.
