Few could have predicted that we would ever reach Fortnite Season 10. Spinning off from the underperforming Save the World (which was later renamed as such to stop confusion) and going up against the seemingly unbeatable PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Fortnite Battle Royale didn’t begin with huge acclaim or attention. Following some smart promotion, including “accidentally” turning on cross-play, Fortnite started to surge in popularity around Season 2 and 3 before dominating from Season 4 onwards.
The game has changed an incredible amount since the early days thanks to Epic continuously updating the game and performing a major overhaul with every new season. Few could have predicted that a 16 year old would walk away with $3,000,000 after winning the Fortnite World Cup, which is the biggest single payout in eSports history. With Season 10 right around the corner, you would expect them to go all out to commemorate such a landmark and maybe even pay homage to the history of the game itself.
Here’s everything you need to know about Fortnite Season 10, including when it kicks off, the theme we predict, and some of the changes we might have ahead of us.
Fortnite Season 10 Start Time
Event details from PlayStation suggested that we will be seeing Fortnite Season 10 begin on August 1st, which was later confirmed by Epic.
As has become Fortnite tradition, Season 9 has gone into Overtime, which means new challenges for special rewards. This was almost certainly down to the Fortnite World Cup as Epic will not have wanted to overhaul things too drastically before such a big and competitive event.
As for the time it begins, Epic announced it starting at 0800 UTC, which is 9am BST/1am PST/4am EST. Downtime usually lasts for a couple of hours as the changes are applied.
Fortnite Season 9: The Story So Far
Compared to other seasons, Fortnite Season 9 didn’t waste much time at all before it started to set up its overarching narrative.
Following the events of Season 8, Season 9 depicts the Fortnite island in a near future where classics named locations have received a sci-fi overhaul. Two destroyed spots, Tilted Towers and Retail Row, became Neo Tilted and Mega Mall respectively. A large statue of Singularity could be seen in the former.
During the season’s second week, a giant eye appeared in Polar Peak, which is presumed to have arrived after the volcano event. The monster, referred to as Cattus, eventually broke free and caused some destruction across the map before disappearing into the ocean.
Following this, the citizens of Fortnite started work on a giant robot, referred to as Doggus, at Pressure Plant to take on the challenge. Though not confirmed, it’s believed that the mecha was controlled by Singularity.
In the final week of Season 9 proper, the two had a showdown as part of a live event. Cattus damaged Doggus by pulling off its arm, which led to the robot reaching down into the vault to claim some kind of orb for a burst of power. Shortly after, Doggus pulled the Tilted statue from the ground to reveal that it was a sword all along. After plunging the sword into Cattus’ head to kill it and leave nothing but bones, Doggus embarrassed itself with a floss before disappearing into the sky.
Since then, the orb (which has been dubbed the Nexus Orb) has been floating in Loot Lake and shifting, presumably until some kind of explosion dramatically changes the island.
Fortnite Season 10 Theme
It looks like those who have been pining for the nostalgia of early Fortnite might be getting their wish if the teaser Epic released at the Fortnite World Cup is anything to go by.
A simple image depicting the rebuilt Dusty Divot buildings was enough to send the Fortnite fanbase into hysterics. The POI has been a wreck with a giant crater since Season 4, so it’s about time that we saw it returned to its glory.
Therefore, you would expect the Season 10 theme to be a refresh of the current Fortnite map, which, in truth, is a mess that is trying to do nine million things at once.
Expect the likes of Greasy Grove to make a return; we will update this when more teasers are released. The big X is Roman numerals for ten. Let’s not dissect that too much.
On July 29th, Epic released a second teaser.

And now there are giant robots? Epic are crazy. Don’t you think that giant robot looks like it has a person atop it?
The third teaser image released on July 30th for Season 10 depicted what looked like two new skins that will be a part of the Battle Pass.

Fans have been quick to point out that the one on the left is similar to Ragnarok and the one on the right is similar to Drift, both from Season 5.
One final tease was a six second clip which showed Jonesy running away from an exploding Nexus Orb.
The full trailer has leaked, so beware spoilers.
Fortnite Season 10 Changes

As just mentioned, the theme of Fortnite Season 10 seems to be one that harkens back to the early days of Fortnite. Therefore, we predict that a lot of the changes will revolve around returning beloved locations to their former glory.
Some of the POIs that could make a return to the game as part of Fortnite Season 10:
– Dusty Divot
– Greasy Grove
– Flush Factory
– Divot Factories
– Five Factories
– Anarchy Acres/Lazy Links
– Wailing Woods
– Moisty Mire
– Tomato Town/Tomato Temple
– Risky Reels
While it’s unlikely that all will return, it’s likely that a few will. It’s also not out of the question that these locations will return with a few changes, much like what happened with Mega Mall and Neo Tilted.
In terms of the meta, your guess is as good as ours, though you would expect Epic to vault at least one of the shotguns. They famously vaulted the Pump at the start of Season 9 before bringing it back. With the game being far too reliant on it throughout the season, maybe it’s about time the Combat Shotgun followed suit?
Fortnite Season 10 Battle Pass
As with every new season of Fortnite, we won’t really know much about the Fortnite Season 10 Battle Pass until an hour or so before downtime ends on August 1st.
However, it’s a good guess to assume that we will get two skins off the bat with there being a tier 100 skin. If previous seasons are anything to go by, there will be seven skins total included with the Battle Pass.
As for price, it’s highly unlikely that Season 10’s will cost more than the 950 V-Bucks they always have been, even if you keep getting more and more back from them each season. Thanks to Fortbtyes, players had pretty much double the amount of cosmetics for Season 9 than normal.
Speaking of Fortbytes, they were pretty great for player retention and making players log-in every day, so it’s highly likely we will see a different version for Season 10.
Are We Looking Forward To Fortnite Season 10?
Even though even the most average of Fortnite players are better than the best from Seasons 1-5 and we’ve been utterly left behind by Creative warlords, it’s hard not to always feel excited about a new season of Fortnite.
The fact that we may be seeing some kind of return to the game’s glory days in terms of map is also heartwarming, though we are still aware that we will get bodied everywhere.
One of the biggest changes we’d ask of Epic for Fortnite Season 10 is to not change so much so often. There have been far too many times where an update has been rushed out and not tested properly, resulting in overpowered items dominating. Adding to that, it seems like they are running out of good ideas for items, so maybe they need to look at making other changes instead of those based on weapons.
