The Recon Scanner looks a lot like a Grenade Launcher, but that’s not about where the similarities begin and end.
Its main purpose is to work similarly to the Flare Gun, just without all of the fire. When you hit a surface, it will reveal all chests and enemies in the vicinity and also do a good amount of damage if it hits another player.
In addition, the ammo for the Recon Scanner will regenerate over time.
Fortnite Season 7: Recon Scanner Location
As a Rare item, the Recon Scanner should be available pretty much everywhere in Fortnite that loot can be found, including in chests, on the floor (though not often, Air Drops, and much more.
