Added somewhat sneakily during Fortnite v12.10 thanks to Epic not giving patch notes for whatever reason now, the Proximity Mine is the newest item added for Season 2 of Chapter 2.

As you may have guessed, it’s an explosive item that deals moderate damage to players but even more to structures. We don’t think it will be a constant pick for top players, more as a item for the early game to close off areas during the match’s liveliest moments indoors.

Here’s everything we know about the Proximity Mine in Fortnite.

Doing just 50 damage, the Proximity Mine is weaker than the Grenade, but it does offer more versatility.

You can find Proximity Mines in Fortnite pretty much everywhere where there is loot, including floor loots, chests, air drops, and the special chests introduced with the start of Season 2. It’s not that common despite being a new item, so you may have to hunt for it in a spot with lots of chests, such as The Grotto.

Proximity Mine Tips

As you can see from the video above, you are able to hit the Proximity Mine up into the air and then shoot or pickaxe it towards an opponent. However, this looks fairly situational, so we’d advise caution.

You can damage yourself with the Proximity Mine, something that we found out for ourselves. Make sure you put loads of distance between yourself and the Mine after you deploy it, and also try to remember where you’ve placed them. Also, don’t forget that other players may be able to hit the Proximity Mine back your way.

Peculiarly, once you hit another player with a Proximity Mine, you are then able to see their outline through walls and they will also have a red arrow above their head.

As for general usage of the Proximity Mine, we can see it being very viable during boxfights when you’re trying to enter a box. Placing mines either side of an enemy’s box will cut off their route to escape and cause damage to them and any builds if they encounter it.

Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 2 is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
