Fortnite may have one of the broadest, most eclectic loot pools in all of competitive gaming, but that doesn’t stop certain sections of the fanbase from clamouring for one of the game’s most iconic weapons: the Pump Shotgun. From the early days of the Double Pump to the painful one-shot days of the Legendary, it’s synonymous with the game, but it somehow hasn’t been available for many years to those playing the game’s core battle royale modes. With the launch of Fortnite: Chapter 4 – Season 4, has the Pump Shotgun finally been unvaulted?
Despite many old, overpowered weapons returning to the loot pool this season, the answer is no, the Pump Shotgun has not been unvaulted for Season 4. Players will instead be able to get tehir hands on the Infiltrator Pump Shotgun, a spin on the classic that can be earned by getting inside many of the game’s bases operated by Thorne.
The Pump Shotgun has actually been out of the game since Chapter 3: Season 1 (v19.00), which was way back in December 2021. It has appeared in the Late Game Arena and Team Rumble modes since, but this December will mark two years since it was actually in the game properly.
It was an understandable decision at the time from Epic, though, as there was nothing worse for new players than instantly getting eliminated by a Pump blast. It also must have irked Epic to see how dependent the playerbase was on the Pump, as even though they kept adding new, unique weapons and items, most of the more serious players kept of relying on the classic Pump. The removal of the Pump has properly been better for Fortnite in the long run.
However, it will almost definitely return to Fortnite at some point in the future, as the nostalgia factor cannot be overlooked when it comes to returning content in Fortnite. It’s really just a case of “when” with the Pump Shotgun returning to Fortnite — it just won’t be in Chapter 4 – Season 4.
