It’s tough to place Fortnite: Chapter 4 – Season 4 as a season. While it started off pretty strongly, the real lack of big updates and yet another super underwhelming Fortnitemares event has made it slightly mixed overall. But luckily nothing is forever in Fortnite, and we have a new season to look ahead to once Season 4 ends.

Fortnite: Chapter 4 – Season 4 is currently scheduled to end on November 3rd, 2023, meaning that it will have only been 70 days long in total. The game will go into downtime on that day at around 8AM GMT, then relaunch as Chapter 4 – Season 5 after a considerable amount of downtime, usually about three hours.

As for what next season will entail, it will probably be the buzziest new season of the chapter since it launched, as we’re riding the nostalgia train once again. Chapter 4 – Season 4 will be returning the Fortnite island back to what it was during Fortnite: Chapter 1 – Season 5, which is actually my personal favourite season of all time. Ah, to have 12 hours spare to play Fortnite all day again, and to also figure out the lore. I’m not even sure how exactly this time travel is being explained, but it’s probably something to do with a MacGuffin, that bloody Zero Point, or some meddling scientist played by someone famous — delete as necessary.

But what kind of legacy will Season 4 of this chapter leave behind? Well, it’s tough to say with us still being in it, but there’s a good chance it will be looked back on fondly with some caveats. The long periods of nothing really hurt during the middle stretch, but the crossovers towards the end of the season kind of dragged it back into relevancy.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
