The writing has been on the wall for the longest time regarding EA and FIFA, with the two sides seemingly drifting apart in recent months. Now, the split has been confirmed, as it’s been announced that from next year, EA’s FIFA games will now be called EA Sports FC.

The news was announced via a blog post on the EA website from Cam Weber, EVP and Group GM for EA Sports & Racing, who revealed that the long running series is entering a new era. In the post, he wrote: “EA Sports FC will become the future of football from EA Sports. Alongside our 300+ license partners across the sport, we’re ready to take global football experiences to new heights, on behalf of all football fans around the world.”

The post confirmed that EA Sports FC would essentially offer the same services and content that you can expect from your standard FIFA games, including “Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs and VOLTA Football”. Most licenses will also be retained, with the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, MLS and more to be announced all pledging their support for EA’s new venture.

More details about EA Sports FC will be revealed in the summer of next year, but in the meantime, EA Sports are still hard at work on FIFA 23, which will be the final game in the partnership between EA and FIFA. Weber confirms that EA want to ensure the last FIFA game is the best ever, as it’ll include “more features, game modes, World Cup content, clubs, leagues, competitions, and players than any FIFA title before.”
