Farming Simulator eSports Are Officially A Thing

2019 just got wild.

Farming Simulator

Here’s some news you might not have expected: Farming Simulator eSports are now a thing, and we’re completely here for it. Developers Giants Software revealed a 10 team league where competitors will do battle, or, well, practice agriculture aggressively, for the title of champion, and a bountiful harvest of a €250,000 prize pool. No, this isn’t an out of season April Fool’s joke.

Last year, the developers held a competition where players engaged in 1v1 hay bale stacking, but the new League will see a change to a 3v3 mode that, according to a blog post from the developers, will “stand true to its roots in farming and combine real field work like harvesting with fun and challenging game elements.” Who knows what that’ll entail, but the League will run on Farming Simulator 19.

While it seems unlikely that the Farming Simulator League will be able to properly compete in the eSports scene with the likes of Overwatch, League of Legends and Fortnite, the FSL (yeah, there’s a shorthand now so it must be official) could carve out a decent niche for itself. We’ll definitely be tuning in, will you?
