Far Cry New Dawn Released Today For PS4, Xbox One & PC

But is this latest Far Cry a new dawn for the franchise or a spin-off not worth your time?

Far Cry: New Dawn

Following a surprise reveal just before E3, Far Cry New Dawn is out today on PC, PS4, and Xbox One with it being the first game in the franchise to be a direct follow-up to the previous game.

A sequel to Far Cry 5 (which also completely ruins the ending of that game for those that haven’t played it), New Dawn takes place in the post-apocalyptic setting of Hope County. Set seventeen years after the events of the Far Cry 5, you play as a blank slate character who is helping to rebuild the remnants of the region but are stopped by the Highwaymen: a group of bandits led by nefarious twin sisters.

Gameplay is mainly the same as the previous game with the player traversing an open world with mates (human and otherwise) in tow and liberating outposts with a pinkish hue to them this time out — if you enjoy the Far Cry formula, New Dawn may scratch those itches. Reviews have not exactly been glowing for New Dawn so far with its PS4 version managing a 73, PC a 74, and Xbox One the most positive with a 75. Criticisms have been levelled at it for being too safe and “Far Cry 5 again, on a smaller scale and with a post-apocalyptic paint job.”

Will you be picking up New Dawn, or is too soon after 5 for you to make the jump into Far Cry again? Be sure to let us know down in the comments below, as well as what you think of Joseph Seed’s haircut. I am just impressed that he barely looks like he has aged at all in almost two decades.
