Far Cry 5: What You Need to Know

Far Cry 5

The fifth instalment of the popular shoot ‘em up brings us to a quiet corner of North Eastern America.

In true Far Cry (FC) style, you are given another vast land to explore in any way you see fit. In the trailer, we see the usual cars, trucks and bikes, but we may also be treated to some aerial acrobatics in the form of fixed wing aircraft.

Things seem fairly gentile and rural as we are given glimpses of what looks like to be a fairly normal town in rustic America. Basically lots of caps, flannel shirts and facial hair. But in between the glances into small town America, there is definitely something a lot more sinister going on.

Within the first few frames we are greeted by a bearded, tattooed, bible waving loon (presumably it’s a bible) who seems to control dozens of cross bearing minions who are better armed than most Eastern European nations.

What unfolds is carnage, death, intimidation, 4x4s, large open spaces and copious amounts of guns.

“Freely explore Hope County’s rivers, lands, and skies with the largest customizable weapon and vehicle roster ever in a Far Cry game. You are the hero of the story in a thrilling world that hits back with every punch, and where the places you discover and the locals you ally with will shape your story in ways you’ll never see coming.”

One thing does seem clear: the town/county seems to be in the grip of a violent cult and presumably (like previous FC games) you have to liberate sector by sector before the big showdown with the man-bun toting cult leader.

So what can we take from the info Ubisoft have provided us so far?

– FC is coming to rural America and it looks bigger and bolder than ever.
– There are cults in America who possess more firepower and armoured vehicles than some NATO members.
– Fear rules Hope County in the form of cross-wearing Eden’s Gate cult members.
– We will be able to pilot helicopters and planes.
– It’s coming out 27th February 2018.
– It seems like there is one form of religion battling another for the hearts and minds of the people of Hope County.
– The protagonist will be from the police force.
– The leader of the Eden’s Gate cult is named Joseph and he will be the main antagonist.
– You will be able to choose your gender and race.
– The game features the ability to play single-player or completely co-op.

Ubisoft also give us a look at those who aren’t willing to convert. More trailers show you some of the characters you will meet when you come to Hope County, like the Preacher Pastor Jerome Jeffries who looks about ready to everyone that the shotgun is definitely mightier than both the pen and sword.

Other characters like Nick Rye, the pilot, and Mary May, the bartender, show us another side to the gun toting cult head cases.

Ubisoft is clearly giving us an insight into both friend and foe and after previous FC games, this one surely does not look like it will disappoint.
