One feature about Evil West that might have slipped players by is the fact that you can play the game together with friends in full, online co-op. However, if you’re planning on buying the game and jumping straight into the co-op play, you’re going to have a bit of a bad time.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to play with friends in Evil West. Bear in mind that you will need either Xbox Live or PlayStation Plus to play the game in co-op with friends if you’re on console.
In order even access the multiplayer section of the game, you’ll need to complete the game’s introductory mission, “The Questionable Cargo“, and have the True Death option deactivated. True Death is the game’s permadeath option that sees your entire save file being deleted if you die, so naturally, co-op is disabled for that mode. You can still play co-op on the game’s four regular difficulties though, which are Story, Normal, Hard and Evil.
Once you’ve completed that mission, you’ll be able to access the multiplayer section from the main menu, and from here you’ll be able to join and host matches like you would in other co-op games. While it’s a shame that you can’t play the first mission together with friends, at least you’ve still got the whole rest of the game to enjoy afterwards.
Evil West is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X & S.
