Even Allison Road’s Developers Don’t Know What’s Going on With Allison Road

Allison Road

Almost two weeks since Allison Road‘s cancellation, the developers have finally come forward with a statement for the reason of its annulment. Which, believe it or not, just made things a lot more confusing.

Apparently, Lilith Ltd and Team17 managed to reach “a mutual agreement”, therefore ending the publication of the game under Team17’s label. They state that the process of developing a game and publishing have “so many layers of complexity” so of course this did not end up where they expected to end up.

However, in all of this vague and short statement they never specify the reason for the need to cancel Allison Road. Which is odd considering they took exactly eleven days to write this.

Some fans have speculated Team17 tricked Lilith Ltd into signing a contract to forfeit their rights to the game. Meaning, Team17 could do whatever they wanted to Allison Road and if the developers didn’t like it they could either swallow their pride and keep making a game that was no longer their own, or end the development of Allison Road altogether.

Others say the developers were way in over their heads. Asserting that their lack of experience and promising things that maybe were too impractical were the cause for the game’s inevitable cancellation.

To be honest, I’m not sure which theory is more believable. On one hand, Team17 could have easily played a Konami and fucked the developers over just because. On the other, Allison Road was becoming very popular and it had received massive acclaim, the game’s success on the day of its sale would have been a no brainer. And publishing companies do love money. Maybe it was Lilith Ld’s fault and they were the ones who fucked themselves over for trying to create a game they themselves weren’t ready to make.

But whichever the true reason for Allison Road‘s demise, I think I can safely say this has affected all horror fans around. One more great promise, one more great cancellation. It is indeed a curse.

Let’s all hope Silent Hill VII doesn’t follow P.T. and Allison Road‘s footsteps.
