In what will likely become a common occurrence for the foreseeable future, EA have become the latest company to pull out of GDC 2020, citing coronavirus concerns as their reason. The news was first confirmed by Alex Sherer on LinkedIn, along with DICE’s Erik Ortman on Twitter, stating the following:

The news was further corroborated by a statement from EA to Gamespot, where EA had this to say: “Having closely followed the global situation with Coronavirus and with the recent escalation of cases in new regions, we have decided to take additional steps to protect the wellbeing of our employees including the restriction of all non-essential travel. As a result we are also cancelling our official participation at GDC and limiting attendance to other events. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will adjust guidelines to our employees as we feel is appropriate.”

EA are the latest in a long line of developers and publishers deciding to cancel their appearances at GDC 2020, as the coronavirus outbreak continues. Yesterday, Kojima Productions opted to cancel their own talks, while Oculus and Sony have also pulled out of the event. As the outbreak develops, it’s likely that more cancellations will occur for future events.
