EA To Reveal Next Need For Speed Game This Wednesday

The chase is on.

Need for Speed Payback

EA are set to unveil the latest Need For Speed title on Wednesday 14th August at 3pm BST, as a new countdown timer has appeared on the official Need For Speed website. The as-yet unnamed entry in the series will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the franchise.

During a first quarter earnings call for EA, CEO Andrew Wilson did mention that EA would be taking “the wraps off our new Need for Speed game heading into Gamescom in a few weeks”, though it’s unclear right now if the racing game will have some presence at the European event.

What we do know about the new Need For Speed is that it will “revitalise the street racing versus cops fantasy at the core of the franchise”, according to a revenue report from EA back in May. EA Community Lead Ben Walke also said, when speaking about the decision for Need For Speed skipping E3, that the game will focus on cars and customisation, so that’s either good or bad news for anyone hoping for/afraid of a return to the cinematic racing of Need For Speed: The Run or Payback.

The next Need For Speed game is scheduled to launch before the end of the year. Are you excited to get back behind the wheel? Sound off in the comments below.
