EA Have Renamed Origin To The EA Desktop App

We'll call the movie about this "EA Desktop App: Origins".

Origin

Origin seems to be no more. After EA rebranded Origin Access, along with EA Access as a whole, to EA Play (with Origin Access Premier becoming EA Play Pro), EA have now taken the step to remove the Origin name entirely. The Origin launcher will now be renamed as the EA Desktop App, which I’ll be honest, it isn’t the most snazzy title in the world, but it’s exactly what it says on the tin, I suppose.

The news of Origin being changed to EA Desktop App was confirmed in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, with EA confirmed that the rebrand comes with a host of improvements to the overall app experience. These include a more streamlined UI, a “better patching experience”, and more besides. The rebranding has been designed to allow players to, in Games Industry’s words, “better enable player choice in regards to what platform they play EA games on, prioritize cross-platform play, and generally break down barriers to having access to EA games”.

With the recent announcement that EA Play will be offered as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate later this year, the strategy of removing barriers to playing EA games seems even more concrete. Couple that with an upcoming Switch release of Apex Legends, along cross-play in the works, and EA are certainly putting their money where their mouth is.
