E3 2016: Project Scorpio – Xbox One 2?

Project Scorpio

Not only did Microsoft announce the smaller Xbox One S, they have also announced Project Scorpio, the long rumoured upgrade. Sony have the Playstation Neo which is 4K and has some spec upgrades. It seems Microsoft are taking it one step further, the Scorpio (which is just a code name at this stage) with VR compatibility and some impressive hardware boasts.

A developer said this “These are the highest-quality pixels that anyone has ever seen” And there was much talk of teraflops, six of them, when Xbox chief Phil Spencer took to the stage. He said this is more than a mere update of the current console, calling it a “dramatic step up in terms of hardware capability” and “when it ships it will be the most powerful console ever built”

This new console will be released ‘Holiday 2017’. Spencer said the reason for such an early announcement was to be completely transparent with consumers, giving them the choice to either stick with their Xbox One, upgrade to the One S, or wait it out until the end of next year for whatever the Scorpio is actually called.

We’ll be hearing much more about this new console over the next year, with a full reveal likely to come at E3 2017. It certainly gives Xbox owners something to think about for the future.
