E3 2015: Guerrilla Games’ Horizon: Zero Dawn Has Robot Hunting

At Sony’s Conference, Killzone developer Guerrilla Games revealed a gameplay-heavy trailer for their new IP Horizon: Zero Dawn.

This third-person action/adventure game is set against the backdrop of the fall of civilisation, as humanity has regressed to smaller tribes that must hunt to survive. The collapse of human cities has allowed nature to flourish, in more ways than one. Sentient machines appear to have evolved, resembling prehistoric creatures that must be hunted by the player. This creates a striking contrast between the overgrowth of plant life and the mechanical creatures that although animalistic, appear to be the dominant life forms of the planet.

The gameplay revealed demonstrated a mixture of stealthy hunting through grassy areas, followed by an adrenaline-fuelled confrontation against a behemoth machine that bears a striking resemblance to a Tyrannosaurus Rex. In order to combat these technologically advanced foes, players are equipped with a variety of arrows for their bow, including rope arrows that tether enemies to the ground, as well as electrical arrows that stun enemy circuitry.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is scheduled for a 2016 release.
