Disney Infinity Studio Will Make New Disney Games For Warner Bros.

Disney Infinity

Try to wrap your brain around this one.

Avalanche Studios have been brought back from the dead after Disney cancelled their promising but ultimately not successful enough Infinity. In fact, seeing as how their cinematic properties are doing the business for them, they decided to shut down their video game production arm completely.

The toys-to-life Infinity looked like it was the biggest casualty, with plenty of gamers upset over its premature death. Luckily, and quite bizarrely, Disney’s Hollywood rivals Warner Bros. have stepped in to pick up the pieces of Avalanche and start making Disney games.

According to Kotaku, Warner Bros. have managed to get most of the old band back together with Avalanche now being at 100 employees strong. CEO John Blackburn will once again take the wheel and with Warner Bros.’ acquisition of the Octane engine, which was used to build Infinity, it might be a much smoother transition back into production than you would expect.

Their first order of business? A tie-in for Cars 3. Oh.

In an official statement, Kyle Laughlin of Disney interactive media said:

“Disney-Pixar’s Cars is one of the world’s most beloved and recognised franchises, and we’re thrilled to be taking the story further and faster than ever before through a new console experience based on the upcoming, action-packed Cars 3. We are excited to once again be working with the Avalanche team, who have a deep understanding of the Disney-Pixar DNA, and a history of translating our stories into great gaming experiences.”

Even if he might be overstretching slightly with the claims about Cars being beloved, it’s still good to see Avalanche back.

There’s no hope for a return to Infinity, sources confirmed to Kotaku. Here’s hoping they can cook up something else in this weird love triangle that’s just as good.
