Did the Oscars Accidentally Post Award Results?

It wouldn't be Oscar season without a few scandals.

Oscars

According to Screenrant, from information gleamed from the Academy’s twitter account, there are rumours that the Academy might have accidentally revealed the Oscar winners list on twitter. The Academy removed the tweet in question, calling it a mistake. They have launched an Oscars prediction social media widget via twitter, and have been encouraging followers to share who they think will be walking away with the big awards. Hence, they tweeted that the list that was shared was actually a list generated by a user, not them.

While it is plausible that the whole episode was just an error, it has certainly led some to don tin foil hats and believe that there is something afoot. This skepticism is amplified given that the list of winners seems like it could be a reality, especially if we use the other award shows as guides. The list identified Parasite to win both the Best Picture and Best International Feature Film, which has never happened before, but could given the successful award season Parasite has had.

Sam Mendes is said to take home the directing award for 1917, with the lead acting awards going to Joaquin Phoenix for Joker and Renée Zellweger for Judy. It all seems fairly credible, no? Guess we will have to tune in February 9 to see for ourselves.
