Watch Four Hilarious New Pokémon: Detective Pikachu TV Spots

Featuring new footage of Gyarados and Mewtwo.

Pikachu in Pokemon: Detective Pikachu

Warner Bros. has released four new TV spots for Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, which you can find embedded below. The first TV spot is particularly interesting, because it shows the terrifying Gyarados in action, as well as giving us a new look at the mysterious Mewtwo. Apologies in advance for the crude masturbation joke at 0:19.

These spots also give us another taste of Ryan Reynolds’ brilliantly witty voice work as the titular world-class detective, who as we know, can only be understood by his human companion, Tim Goodman (Justice Smith). We can see that there will be some hilarious back and forth between the two characters, such as how they argue over why Tim sleeps in a Pikachu-themed bed. And we can expect plenty more where that came from, as the two will be teaming up to find Tim’s missing father, who previously disappeared while investigating a case.

Unsurprisingly, the thirty second videos are also filled with other Pokémon who are set to make appearances in the film, including Bulbasaur, Charizard, Lickitung, Jigglypuff, Snorlax, Cubone, and the adorable Psyduck.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is being directed by Rob Letterman, who also helmed Gulliver’s Travels and the first Goosebumps movie, and also stars Kathryn Newton, Bill Nighy, Ken Watanabe, and Karan Soni. The film will open in wide release on May 10, and is expected to be a huge hit. It’s hardly surprising that a Pokémon shared universe is already being discussed by Legendary Entertainment.
