After first coming to prominence as one half of Akkord Joe McBride, aka Synkro struck out on his own, exploring the worlds of drum and bass, dubstep, and other things which almost defy classification. He’s put music out on labels ranging from Brownswood to Sty to Exit. Any time he announces a new release, eyebrows ascend, and we’re now only a few weeks away from his next EP – Hand in Hand.

It’s being released on the legendary Apollo Records, famed for signing Aphex Twin, DJ Krush, Space Dimension Controller, Nicolas Jaar and a slew of other prominent electronic artists. Hand in Hand is due out on the 10th of November, and the leading single from the EP has just been dropped, it’s called Vanishing Point.

When it opens, the tone is almost reminiscent of something Deep Forest might have put out in the mid-nineties, and drums come in, you could be forgiven for thinking you’re about to get a rip-roaring jungle beat. Instead, a measured hip-hop mix of symbols and snares takes over, evoking early era DJ Shadow before a gorgeous science fiction synth comes in over the top. To say it’s a varied and unpredictable track would be an understatement, there’s so much going on it’s hard to know what to focus on.

Synkro has always been one to keep an eye on. With each new release he seems to have familiarised himself with an arsenal of new hardware and production techniques, which makes his progression almost impossible to predict.
