Cyberpunk 2077 Has Been Delayed, Earth Continues To Spin

I feel at least partially responsible for this one.

Unsurprisingly given its history so far, CD Projekt Red have announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed once again, despite going gold a few weeks ago. In other news, the Earth continues to spin on its axis as usual. Instead of launching on November 19th, Cyberpunk 2077 will now launch on December 10th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Google Stadia. The news was announced via the below tweet.

So Why Has Cyberpunk 2077 Been Delayed?

In the above statement, CD Projekt Red cite difficulties improving stability across nine versions of the game, all while working from home. The game is complete and ready to go, so to speak, but CD Projekt Red want to spend some extra time improving the game’s Day 0 patch, which the developers note that they undercalculated that time period.

What About The Developers Who Are Currently Crunching?

That’s unclear right now. A few weeks back, an internal email was shared stating that CD Projekt Red employees were to undergo six weeks of mandatory crunch in order to ensure that Cyberpunk 2077 is the best it can be at launch, but apparently that wasn’t enough. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but it’s to be expected that said developers will now have to work nine weeks of crunch, which sucks. It’s likely there will also be some level of crunch in the weeks after launch for post-launch patches, which really sucks when the game launches two weeks before Christmas.

Why Do You Feel Responsible For The Delay, Ash?

Today, I was writing up a list of games coming out in November to come out tomorrow, and I made an offhand joke about how surreal it is that Cyberpunk 2077 is finally launching, and that I was half-expecting the game to get a surprise delay. I submitted that article to Jimmy about an hour before the game got delayed, so now we both believe I somehow willed that energy into the universe. Sorry guys, this one is on me.
