Canadian developer and publisher StudioMDHR have confirmed that their acclaimed game Cuphead has now sold over two million copies worldwide across all platforms, which they said exceeded their wildest dreams. As a result, they are probably going to have a very happy Christmas.
Released back in September, the insanely difficult 2D run and gun shooter was adored by critics and holds a score of 86% on Metacritic, with the Xbox One version being the seventh highest reviewed game of the year on the system. We awarded it a score of 8.5 out of ten in our review, calling it “challenging, exciting and most importantly, enjoyable.”
Needless to say, if you still haven’t played Cuphead, you should purchase a copy from Steam or the Microsoft Store immediately, but keep in mind that you’ll probably die a ton of times. Either way, with all the nonsense being pulled by major publishers with their AAA games these days, it’s hugely satisfying to see an indie title hit the big time. And we can’t wait to see what StudioMDHR conjures up next.
