Cowboy Bebop: Season 2 – Everything You Should Know

Look: it's not gonna happen.

For modern anime fans, it might be confusing as to why Cowboy Bebop was revolutionary. Sure, the animation is great for its time, the story is great, and so is the music, but not necessarily “revolutionary” by today’s standards. However, its influence on the industry as a whole is clear, with many people clamoring for more Cowboy Bebop even today.

Most early anime had heavy Japanese tones since, well, they were made in Japan, which had little cultural influence from other countries. So, when Spike Spiegel and his band of rowdy bounty hunters hit the scene in 1998, everything changed. The art, the tone, and even the character names are heavily westernized. Cowboy Bebop resonated with non-Japanese people more than any other anime at the time and acted as an introductory anime to lots of fans. Many consider it the reason why anime blew up in the West. Considering its popularity, why hasn’t Cowboy Bebop: Season 2 come out yet?

When Is Cowboy Bebop: Season 2 Being Released?

There is currently no intention for the creation of a second season of Cowboy Bebop. The series director, Shinichirō Watanabe, has stated that the compact nature of Cowboy Bebop is part of what makes it special. Everything that you needed to know about the plot and characters was presented in a neat 26 episodes and a movie. It needs nothing more.

If you’re wondering if there’s any source material left to adapt, Cowboy Bebop actually started as an anime before getting a manga adaptation, so the anime is the source material.

What Would Cowboy Bebop: Season 2 Be About?

Considering that the anime is already done, there is no plot for Season 2 available. If something were released, it would be completely new. There’s really no way of knowing how they’d continue Spike’s journey. And that’s assuming Spike even survived the end of the first season.

Which Studio Would Make Cowboy Bebop: Season 2?

Again, since there’s no news about a second season, no studio is currently working on it. However, if you’d have to guess, the teams that made the first season would be the most likely candidates. Bandai Visual was in charge of the production, while Sunrise (also known as Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc.) was the studio that animated the Cowboy Bebop.

Bandai Visual has been in the business of producing anime since 1983. Aside from Cowboy Bebop, some of their most well-known works include Code Geass, One Punch Man, and Kuroko No Basket

Sunrise has been animating since 1976. They’ve built up a great list of anime they’ve animated. These include Daily Lives of High School Boys, Inuyasha, and Gintama.

These two are no strangers to making anime together. They’ve worked on Code Geass and Love Live, both great anime. So they’re probably very comfortable working with each other.

Where To Watch Cowboy Bebop

The only thing fans have going for them is where the first season is currently available, which is pretty much everywhere. Crunchyroll, Funimation, Tubi TV, and Netflix, depending on your region, all have the first season of Cowboy Bebop. If Watanabe ever changes his mind, these streaming services have a high chance of getting the license to Cowboy Bebop: Season 2.

If you want more anime directed by Shinichirō Watanabe, be sure to check out Samurai Champloo. You can also check out the live-action version on Netflix, but beware that it has been cancelled because, well, it isn’t very good.
