Boruto Filler: All the Episodes You Can Skip

Boruto's infamous for being full of filler, so here's what you can and can't skip

Right after you finish watching Naruto: Shippuden, you’ll instantly want to see what’s everyone up to in the Hidden Leaf Village years later. That’s apparently where Boruto: Naruto Next Generations comes in. The sequel anime shifts focus onto Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto’s son, and instead, paints everyone’s adored rebel Naruto as a major supporting father figure.

You may have already heard about the negativity surrounding Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. It reportedly has huge amounts of filler content, and that leads some people to believe that it’s not worth the watch. While that statement isn’t technically wrong, there’s more than enough quality in the anime that makes it a worthy successor to the fan-favorite series. So if you want to start the next saga in the Shinobi world without the fluff, following this spectacular Boruto filler episode list is all you’ll be needing.

Boruto Filler

From the anime’s current 280+ episodes, about 30 are considered absolute filler, whereas 10 are mixed canon-filler episodes. The main reason why Boruto receives so much criticism for its filler content is that only around 60 of the total 280+ episodes are directly adapted from the manga, and everything else is anime-original content that doesn’t add much to the overall plot. Still, some of them are pretty fun to watch but for now, here’s a look at what’s entirely fluff.

  • Academy Entrance Arc (Episodes 16-17)
  • Genin Mission Arc (Episodes 40-41)
  • Byakuya Gang Arc (Episodes 49-50)
  • Cho Cho Arc (Episodes 67-69)
  • Naruto Shinden Arc (Episodes 96-97)
  • Konoha Shinden Arc (Episodes 112-115)
  • Konohamaru and Remon Arc (Episodes 116-119)
  • Time Slip Arc (Episodes 138-140)
  • Mujina Bandits Arc (Episodes 152-156)
  • Great Sea Battle of Kirigakure Arc (Episodes 256-258)

As for the anime original episodes, you should watch them. It’s not recommended to skip them as while they don’t massively progress the plot, they do have lots of character development in them. The mangakas have also approved them as a part of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, so that furthers the notion.

Why Should You Skip The Boruto Filler?

Boruto is infamous for how slow-paced the story is with the anime, and how rushed the manga is. Both are pretty contradictory to each other, and between reading the manga or watching the entire anime, neither is ideal at all. A great way to get the best possible experience while avoiding the Boruto filler would be to check out all the manga canon episodes, and watch only those anime originals that you truly feel sound good.

The Naruto Shinden Arc and Konohamaru and Remon Arc are really enjoyable even though they are filler, whereas some of the anime canon content is plain boring to sit through. Reading a brief synopsis of every original arc before watching it would definitely help you sense whether watching it would be worth your time.

Skipping the above-listed Boruto filler episodes and some of the anime original stuff that doesn’t stand out should keep you entertained with decent amounts of character development and story advancement. All in all, Boruto’s a tricky anime to navigate through, and how amusing it’ll be will depend on what you choose to pass on.
