Is it just me who has felt like the month of March has been the longest year of our lives? Sure, it had a few bright spots in the form of the utterly heartwarming Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the downright exhilarating DOOM Eternal, but it’s been a bit dour these past few weeks. Chin up and all that, though. We’ll get through this.

While it might seem like doom and gloom wherever you look, the gaming industry over the next couple of weeks offers plenty to look forward to, with games to suit all tastes. Whatever your preference, you’ll probably find something that caters to your needs. Here’s all the big game releases launching in April.

Resident Evil 3 – April 3rd

Resident Evil 3 3

Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Platform(s): PC, PS4, XB1

Following on from the incredible success of last year’s Resident Evil 2 remake, April will see players return to Raccoon City once again in Resident Evil 3. Players will take control of Jill Valentine as she tries to survive hordes of zombies, mutated creatures and a certain genetically enhanced goliath with an array of armaments that’d make Rambo blush.

Resident Evil 3 differs in a number of key ways from its predecessor, as it focuses more on action than puzzle solving and survival horror, but the main threat you’ll be dealing with is the towering Nemesis. Armed with plenty of weapons and abilities, all designed to completely murder you, Resident Evil 3 is a treat. We know, we’ve got a review right here.

Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories – April 7th

Disaster Report 4

Developer: Granzella Inc.
Publisher: NIS America
Platform(s): PC, PS4, NS

If the idea of a city falling apart due to an outbreak seems a little bit too close to the bone for you, with everything that’s going on in the world, perhaps a natural disaster is more your speed. That’s the premise for Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories, which sees you try to survive in a city stricken by an earthquake.

After fully customising your character, you’re tasked with exploring the ruins of the city, trying to find fellow survivors and escape routes within the destroyed buildings of a once bustling metropolis. Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories has already been available in Japan for a couple of years, but it’s finally coming to the West, and it looks like a lot of fun.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake – April 10th

Final Fantasy 7 remake

Developer: Square Enix
Publisher: Square Enix
Platform(s): PS4

Another remake, but one fans have been waiting about 5 years for at least, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is exactly what you think it is: a full-blown remake of the classic PS1 JRPG. Players will once again take on the role of Cloud, as he tries to stop the Shinra company from exploiting the world’s resources.

As a full remake, the new version of Final Fantasy 7 features a revamped combat system, with players able to perform moves in real-time, though there is a classic mode if players would rather focus on selecting moves from a menu if you prefer a more “vintage” experience. With dozens of hours of content waiting to be re-explored, Final Fantasy 7 Remake could be the perfect lockdown killer.

Predator: Hunting Grounds – April 24th

Predator Hunting Grounds 1
Predator Hunting Grounds

Developer: Illfonic
Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Platform(s): PC, PS4

For as iconic of a movie monster as the Predator is, his video game outings have been less than stellar, with the only noteworthy inclusions also featuring the Xenomorph from Alien is joint headline billing. Predator: Hunting Grounds gives the titular hunter a chance to shine in his own game, putting his skills to good use.

Developed by Illfonic, Hunting Grounds leverages the developer’s previous experience on the Friday the 13th game by creating an asymmetrical multiplayer experience. A team of humans will find themselves hunted down and picked off by a technically superior Predator, and chaos will naturally ensue.

Trials of Mana – April 24th

Trials of Mana remake

Developer: Square Enix
Publisher: Square Enix
Platform(s): PC, PS4, NS

So it seems like April is the month for remakes, as Trials of Mana is another 3D remake of a cult JRPG classic. The original game was released back in 1995, so you could say it’s probably been long overdue a remake, but this one is about as extensive as they come, overhauling the core game in a variety of key ways.

While the narrative remains largely the same, players will now be able to explore a fully realised 3D world, along with full voice support, a remastered soundtrack and a brand new epilogue episode. If you’ve managed to make your way through Final Fantasy 7’s remake by the time Trials of Mana comes out, you’ve got another way to kill a few dozen hours.

Gears Tactics – April 28th

Gears Tactics

Developer: The Coalition, Splash Damage
Publisher: Xbox Game Studios
Platform(s): PC

The turn-based military strategy genre seems to be blowing up ever since the success of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2, and Gears Tactics is another game to add to the growing pile. A spin-off of the popular Gears of War series, Tactics will see you play as a brand new squad as they fight against the Locust hordes.

Playing as Gabriel Diaz, the father of current series protagonist Kait, you have to gather your squad, manage your abilities and equipment and take on various missions against the Locust. The game promises fast paced, turn-based strategy action, which honestly seems like a bit of an oxymoron, but Tactics could still be a real winner.

Sakura Wars – April 28th

Sakura Wars

Developer: SEGA
Publisher: SEGA
Platform(s): PS4

For those with the hankering to explore a steampunk version of Tokyo, Sakura Wars should be right up your alley. As the leader of the Imperial Combat Revue’s Flower Division, it’s your job to lead your team to victory in the Combat Revue World Games, while also trying to deal with a demonic invasion. It’s all systems go for the Flower Division.

A blend of genres, Sakura Wars combines elements from action RPGs, dating sims and visual novels to create a unique experience worth checking out. Players will fight in their mechs with other pilots, and between fights, they’ll attempt to build up their relationships with their team members. It’ll be one to keep an eye on when it launches at the end of this month.
