Avengers: Endgame Gets Closer To Surpassing Avatar’s Record

"We will. Whatever it takes."

According to Variety, Avengers: Endgame is just 7.2 million USD away from beating Avatar to become the highest grossing movie of all time, after collecting 2.8 million USD at the box office this past weekend. What initially seemed unachievable has now reached levels of possibility, with the re-release of the movie keeping it in the running. Given Spider-Man: Far From Home’s link to the narrative of Avengers: Endgame, moviegoers might have decided to do a double bill and watch the two together, thus keeping the movie in the game.

Does the Marvel heavyweight have the potential to go all the way and snatch the crown from Avatar? That depends on how long Disney plans to leave Avengers: Endgame in theatres. Anthony Russo, in an interview with MTV News after Avengers: Endgame took home Best Movie at the MTV Movie Awards, mentioned that it doesn’t really matter to him whether the film surpasses Avatar or not. He refuses to think too much about it as he doesn’t want to experience “regret about anything associated with this movie”. He might be feeling a little differently now given how close the movie is to holding the record.

There are other records being strived for in conjunction with the movie. Florida man Agustin Alanis has seen the movie a staggering 116 times. He has no plans of stopping, with an aim to get to at least 200 viewings. With more people like him, maybe the chasm of 7.2 million USD might be overcome after all.
