Everything You Missed In The Apex Legends Season 11 Gameplay Trailer

Finally time to wash all that sweat off.

Ash Season 11

After teasing players with glimpses of Apex Legends’ newest map on Twitter all week, Respawn has finally given fans a closer look at it via the gameplay trailer for the hit battle royale’s 11th season, entitled “Escape”. While the season’s tropical theme might lead you to believe that the Legends are going on vacation, it appears that they may ultimately find themselves wishing they could escape from their tropical getaway.

The new map, Storm Point, is an island located on Gaea, the homeworld of Crypto and Caustic. The Legends previously visited the location in Season 9, with the goal of bagging some of the horrifying, huge Carthage spiders that make their home in the Gaean jungle. In that instance, the Legends barely escaped with their lives. It now seems, however, that there is no escape from the enormous arachnids, as they (along with Prowlers and deathbox-toting Flyers) will be a permanent fixture on the new map, a feature that will certainly keep both players and the Legends on their toes.

But not all is lost. Players can easily escape any unfriendly wildlife via getaway car, as Tridents–the flying vehicles introduced in Season 7–will follow the Legends to the Games’ new locale. But for those who prefer hoofing it, there are several pieces of new tech that I can only describe as “skinsuit-launchers” which appear to function like the speed-boosting Trident ramps on Olympus. Running along one of these ramps will propel players forward, launching them from one point of interest to another.

Perhaps the most fascinating point of interest, however, is the crash site of the IMS Hestia. The Hestia is the ship that Bangalore and her brother, Jackson, were assigned to during the Frontier War. All was well until a mysterious explosion occurred, puncturing the hull and bisecting the ship, which sent Jackson plunging to his doom as Bangalore watched helplessly. Bangalore, however, knew her brother always wore his jump kit, and has reason to believe he’s alive after finding some common ground with Wraith via a series of comics posted to the @PlayApex Twitter in Season 9 that revealed he survived the crash, though his whereabouts are still unknown.

The Hestia is a particularly fascinating location, as the ship was carrying the Ark–a powerful energy source of unknown origin that the IMC planned to use to power an alien technology called the Fold Weapon that essentially functioned like a Death Star–capable of folding time and space, but also capable of destroying entire planets in a heartbeat. The IMC had planned to use it to destroy the Militia’s home planet, Harmony, obliterating the Militia’s base of operations and winning the war once and for all. Thankfully, Titanfall 2 protagonist Jack Cooper prevented this from happening, but the circumstances surrounding Jackson’s disappearance and the crash of the IMS Hestia remain shrouded in mystery. The chance to explore the ship itself will definitely lead to some intense fights (and hopefully some interesting lore).

Ash – one of Titanfall 2’s most memorable Apex Predators, and this season’s debut Legend – isn’t the only Titanfall relic making a reappearance this season. The CAR SMG (short for ‘Combat Advanced Round Sub Machine Gun’) will be joining the weapon pool in the upcoming season. Created by Jaewon Industries, the arms manufacturer that created the M600 Spitfire and the HAVOC Rifle, the CAR is an incredibly versatile firearm. While its functionality will undoubtedly be tweaked for Apex Legends, the gun’s consistent recoil has made it a fan favorite in Titanfall 2. Based on the gameplay trailer, the CAR will be capable of utilizing both light and heavy ammo and magazines, making it one of the most interesting (and useful) weapons to be introduced to Apex post-launch.

While the finer details of Storm Point have yet to be revealed, a voiceover in the gameplay trailer describes the location as “A place where dreams come true.” But according to this season’s tagline, “danger lies within”, it seems that some of the dreams coming true on this island may be better described as nightmares. Speculation aside, one glance at the swirling, seemingly-eternal tropical vortex spinning in Storm Point’s skies is enough to tell you that whatever happens, this vacation isn’t going to be all sunshine and rainbows.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and Switch.
