Respawn Ban Over 355,000 Apex Legends Cheaters

Goddamn losers.

Apex Legends Mirage

As a free-to-play game, Apex Legends is more susceptible to cheating than most. While there have been growing concerns over the amount of cheaters currently present in the hottest new battle royale, Respawn have been quick to crack down on 355,000 of them.

The cheaters have been caught via the PC version’s Easy-Anti-Cheat software, but Respawn mentioned in an official subreddit update that the work is still ongoing.

As of today we’ve banned over 355K players on PC through Easy-Anti-Cheat. The service works but the fight against cheaters is an ongoing war that we’ll need to continue to adapt to and be very vigilant about fighting. We take cheating very seriously and care deeply about the health of Apex Legends for all players.

We are working on improvements to combat cheaters and we’re going to have to be pretty secretive about our plans. Cheaters are crafty and we don’t want them to see us coming. With that said, we can share some high levels things we’re doing:

We are reaching out and working directly with experts, both within and outside of EA, in this area that we can learn from.

Scaling up our anti-cheat team so we have more dedicated resources.

We are adding a report feature on PC to report cheaters in game that goes directly to Easy-Anti-Cheat.

I don’t know what’s sadder: that people have to resort to cheating because they’re trash or the volume of them. There have been over 50 million players, so the (rough estimate) amount of cheaters is 0.71%. Almost 1% of players can’t point a gun and shoot all on their own.

Pathetic.

The rest of the update on Reddit focuses on the crashes some players are having, which Respawn expect to make some headway on with a visit from AMD. They hope to have things better in place by the time Season 1 rolls around. They additionally mentioned that they are working on the slow motion at the start of some matches but did not have a certifiable fix just yet.

From our Apex Legends review:

“Even the most jaded of battle royale fans will find their interest rejuvenated by Apex Legends thanks to Respawn’s attention to detail, superior gunplay, and fantastic innovations, though the loot boxes and progression system certainly need addressing.”
