We’re Getting A Line of New Sandman Comics This Year

A new line of Vertigo Sandman comics will kick off this August with “The Sandman Universe” one-shot special, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The Sandman Universe #1 will be plotted by Neil Gaiman but written by Nalo Hopkinson, Kat Howard, Si Spurrier and Dan Watters. Interior art will be done by Bilquis Everly, with a cover by Jae Lee. Each of those four writers will then go on to explore the “Sandman Universe” in four different series. Gaiman will be overseeing the direction of the new series, but the new “Sandman Universe” will be written, illustrated and lettered by the new team of talented writers, artists and letterers.

Hopkinson will be writing “House of Whispers”, which will “explore how the voodoo deity Erzulie ended up in the Dreaming with her titular house.” Howard will write “Books of Magic”, which will follow up on Gaiman’s 1990 miniseries of the same name. Books of Magic explored the life of Timothy Hunter, a young Harry Potter-looking lad (though, we should note, Gaiman explored the idea before Rowling!) who has the potential to become the world’s great magician, but who has to decide whether he wants to side with good or evil to harness his powers.

Spurrier will write “The Dreaming”, which will follow The Sandman’s supporting characters “like Lucien the Librarian and Matthew the Raven”. Finally, Watters will write be writing “Lucifer”, which “finds the titular devil blind and destitute”. An excellent starting point for any new series!

So far, the artists for rest of the Sandman Universe comics have not been officially announced, but we will update you as soon as any official new information on the series is announced.
