Resident Evil Games Aren’t Coming to Nintendo Switch (Just Yet)

Ever since Resident Evil 4 dropped on the Gamecube, Nintendo and Capcom haven’t collaborated a great deal on many other entries in the franchise.

This could be down to Nintendo traditionally going left while the rest of the gaming industry goes right. Both the Wii and Wii U wouldn’t have been the most suitable of platforms for new Resi games, and it doesn’t look like the Switch is getting any for the time being, either.

While admiring the possibilities of the console, producer Masachika Kawata told the haven of excellence in gaming journalism known as The Express* that they had no plans to take their legendary series to the Switch just yet:

“I think it’s a very unique piece of hardware.

“I’m looking forward to the possibilities of the system itself, but we have no plans at the moment regarding Resident Evil on Switch.”

While it may be easy to point at this tidbit and say that Capcom are jumping a sinking ship, they have partnered with Capcom to make games, so they may well do so in the future. Plus, bear in mind that the Switch is still a young console and developers may need some time to properly acquaint themselves with its in and outs. You can clearly tell that it’s going to take a little while – just look at the Switch’s line-up for this year.

Resident Evil 7, one of the biggest horror games of 2017, is set to launch tomorrow (Jan 24th). We weren’t able to get a review copy of the title, so expect to see our verdict a few days after its release.
