This is England Could End with Another Feature Film

It started as a film before expanding into three miniseries’, but now it looks like This is England could go full circle.

The 2006 Shane Meadows film was a critical success and the director himself has stated in an interview with The Sun that it would make sense to bring the series to a close with another feature film.

“There is one This Is England left. I’ve got one last idea for This Is England but as a film that can be split as a hybrid.

“Because it started in cinemas and ended up on TV, I would love to finish off with one feature-length episode people can watch in the cinema or on TV the same night.”

With This is England ’86, ’88, and ’90 covering so much ground in the lives of its characters, what else is there? Concluding their stories with another miniseries would be stretching things slightly, which is why a This is England 2 is what Meadows is aiming towards.

“It’s a mixture of not having enough stories to move on to telling four or five hours’ worth of stuff and also wanting to get back into that feature film format.

“If I wanted to make money, I could write 10 episodes of This Is England and make a lot of money for everyone, but maybe then the series would go down in quality.

“It has always been, with This Is England, making the series or films the best they can be.”
