Does GTA 6 Have Cloud Saves and Cross-Progression?

For a game as big as Grand Theft Auto 6, you’re probably going to want to sort some cloud saves up to a) make sure you have backups, and b) transfer your saves if you switch your consoles.

Cloud saves have yet to be confirmed for the PS5 version of the game. The Xbox Series X & S version of Grand Theft Auto VI officially supports Xbox cloud saves.

Rockstar and PlayStation have not announced cross-platform progression between Xbox and PS5 accounts, and we wouldn’t expect it either. GTA 5 never had such a feature, and it had well over a decade to be implemented. If we’re cynical, we’d say it’s to get you to play through the game and start your grind all over again.

What do Xbox cloud saves provide?

Xbox cloud saves normally synchronise campaign progress between compatible Xbox consoles using the same account. This means moving from a Series S to a Series X should not require starting the story again once the save has synchronised. The official Xbox listing identifies GTA 6 as a single-player Series X & S game with Xbox cloud-save support.

GTA 6 is not a Xbox Play Anywhere game, and besides, no PC version has been officially announced. Cloud-save support should therefore not be read as confirmation that an Xbox campaign can continue on a future PC release. Xbox Play Anywhere is a separate programme covering eligible digital games across Xbox and Windows PC.

Does GTA 6 support PS5 cloud saves?

Sony’s current GTA 6 listing does not advertise a game-specific cross-save system. PS5 owners may be able to back up saves through the console’s standard PlayStation Plus cloud-storage feature, subject to Sony’s subscription and account rules. We would expect it to be a feature of the game at or around launch, especially as some players may want to upgrade to a PS5 Pro.

Can saves move between PS5 and Xbox?

There is no confirmed cross-progression feature linking the two platforms, but we would be very surprised if it happens. Rockstar has not announced Social Club save migration, shared campaign progress or cross-platform entitlement for GTA 6.

To be safe, just assume saves stay within their platform family: Xbox cloud saves are confirmed, while PS5-to-Xbox transfer is not. We would be very surprised if the feature is even around for the eventual PC release, too.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on 19 November 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X & S.
