Developers ArtPlay and WayForward and publisher 505 Games have today announced that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the Castlevania spiritual successor from the mind behind it, has sold over a million copies since launch almost one year ago.

Koji Igarashi, the game’s creator, has shared his thanks with fans, as well as promising some new features to be added over the course of 2020, all for free.

The new content includes Boss Revenge Mode, which was a final stretch goal in the game’s Kickstarter, and also Chroma Wheel to allow for character customisation – both will arrive on June 23rd, with Switch coming later from July 2020.

Chaos Mode, Vs Mode, and Classic Mode are all due to be added over the course of the year, as well as two special crossover events that have not yet been detailed.

Here’s the roadmap:

Bear in mind that this roadmap could change, especially with the way the world is right now.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was a critical success last year, so it’s good to see it being followed up with commercial success as well. It looks it will be a supported for a long while yet, too.

Konami’s loss, and all that.

From our Bloodstained review:

Bloodstained offers more of exactly what so many of the fans wanted, something similar, new but reminiscent of the old content. Most importantly, it’s meaty and fun, and an accomplishment for those who believed in it.
