A new report from the website Rely On Horror has revealed that two Silent Hill projects are in the works, both of which appear to be heavily funded by Sony. The first is described as a soft reboot for the series, while the other project will see Kojima Productions revive Silent Hills.
As mentioned, the first Silent Hill project is said to be a soft reboot for the series, and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Japan Studio is said to be co-developing the project. Perhaps most interestingly, the project will see three of the series’ most influential creators return, as creature designer Masahrio Ito, writer/director Keiichiro Toyama and long-time composer Akira Yamaoka have all been linked to the reboot. Rely on Horror also note that the project has been in development for about a year.
Meanwhile, the second project is merely being discussed at the moment, but the possibility is there. According to their sources, Sony are funding efforts to actually make Silent Hills, the ill-fated project that led to the infamous P.T. demo, but was unfortunately cancelled after Hideo Kojima split from Konami.
This project is said to be Sony’s way to “patch up the relationship between Kojima Productions and Konami”. In order to accomplish this, it’s said that Kojima will be given full creative control over the game, and that Sony have pitched the title as a Telltale/Supermassive Games-esque narrative-driven title.
While the report does appear to be legitimate, it’s worth taking this information with a pinch of salt. Would you be excited to see either of these Silent Hill projects? Let us know in the comments.
