9 Minutes Of New Astral Chain Footage Showcases The Game’s Features

We're incredibly excited.

Astral Chain

Platinum Games and Nintendo have published over nine minutes of gameplay footage of the upcoming action RPG Astral Chain, scheduled to launch on the Nintendo Switch on August 30th. Check out the footage below, and then come back here so we can break it down for you.

In Astral Chain, you control a member of the police task force Neuron, who are trying to deal with the Chimera menace. To do so, living weapons called Legions were created, and you can use your link to these Legions to fight back against the chimera forces.

There are five legion types and each has its own attacks and strengths. Sword and Arrow Legions excel in close and long range fights respectively, while Arm Legion looks like a stand from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. It even does those multi-hit punches you’d find in both JoJo and Fist of the North Star, making it the go-to for any anime fan. There’s also Beast Legion that specialises in speed, and Axe Legion, which is a defensive assist that can deal some serious damage.

What’s most interesting in Astral Chain is how you can use the physical chain between you and your Legion in battle. Circling your opponent with the chain causes a Chain Bind, immobilising all enemies caught in the circle for a brief period. Meanwhile, extending the chain outwards as an enemy attacks will trigger a Chain Counter, launching an enemy backwards allowing you to deal some follow-up damage.

In between fights, you’ll have to solve various “investigations” regarding chimeras and the civilian population, but you can use the different legions at your disposal to open up new areas, chase down leads and more. You can switch between legions at any time as well, meaning you can use whatever tools that best fit the situation.

Astral Chain launches on August 30th for the Nintendo Switch. How excited are you from a scale of one to “my God, Platinum are the best”? Sound off in the comments.
