7 Battlefield V Tips To Sturm Your Gewehr

Dying a lot in the biggest new FPS? Follow these simple Battlefield V tips and you should be just fine.

Recently released (after having two previous release dates, but don’t worry about that) for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, Battlefield V is the latest in the beloved FPS franchise from EA and DICE. While it may be a few patches and content updates away from being the game it should, the action is great and the spectacle as huge as ever.

But it might be a bit of a culture shock to anyone used to the slower Battlefield 1 or those who haven’t played a Battlefield title in a long while. If your K/D is suffering or you just want to set off your time with the multiplayer on the right foot, here are some quick Battlefield V tips to help you out.

1. Do not Rambo
Unless you’re a clone of Shroud, you probably can’t take down a whole platoon all on your own. While it may be tempting to splinter off from the pack on your lonesome to take down objectives, try to have at least one other person by your side. Battlefield V heavily promotes teamwork over any Battlefield game before it, so bear that in mind.

2. Remember to use your health packs
The second you take fire and then find cover, you should be using your health pack because there is no full health regeneration this time out. Your health bar will only recover to a set amount, so be less gung-ho and stay close to a Medic if you can. You can either be given them by a Medic or find them at specific health stations.

3. Dive
A little tip, but one that could save your skin on more than a couple of occasions. If you’re coming under heavy fire and you aren’t sure where from, take a dive by using the crouch button when sprinting. This can possibly obscure you from the enemy’s vision and allow your teammates to cotton on to what’s going on so they can then engage your attacker.

4. Forget about chokepoints in Conquest
Conquest is the flagship mode for Conquest and the scale and ridiculousness is more pronounced than ever, but the maps for Battlefield V feel a little unbalanced to say that it’s the definitive way to experience it. Maps like Airfield and Devastation have horrendous chokepoints that will drain away your team’s tickets for just the one objective. If there are plenty of teammates already on one of these highly-trafficked areas, considering taking yourself and your squad to one of the opposition’s “default” objectives for a sneaky capture instead.

5. Have assigned roles in your squad
As mentioned, you really ought to lean on your team in Battlefield V, more so than any Battlefield before it. That applies to your squad too, with all four of you occupying one of each of the four classes. Assault should be the priority to lead the line and handle frags, Medic to revive downed teammates and provide healing items, Support to lend suppressing fire and ammo, and Recon to tag enemies and set up a spawn beacon.

6. Use smoke as a medic
Things can get pretty hectic in the heat of battle for a Medic, but you have to keep on top of all of the casualties you can. If there’s a firefight going on around, considering using a smoke grenade to obscure the enemies’ vision so you can revive a downed teammate to limit the chances of you getting shot for your bravery.

7. Be careful when you fortify
Fortifying is a neat little addition to the Battlefield V experience, but it can leave you massively open when laying down some sandbags. The game will typically force you a little out into the open when fortifying, so bear that in mind and try to hang by some cover if you can. Airfield is Hell if you’re trying to fortify, so maybe just don’t bother.

8. Do not rapid fire from long distances
This might be a little obvious, but bear with it. The weapons in Battlefield V are relatively faithful to their World War II inspirations, so they don’t exactly match the reliability and finesse of modern weapons. There’s a lot of recoil with many of the weapons, which means that you should tap to shoot instead of spraying if your enemies are not in close proximity. A quick rule of thumb: if you can’t make out their features, tap away.

From our Battlefield V review:

“While the gunplay and spectacle is as excellent as you would expect from a Battlefield game, the underwhelming maps, lack of content available at launch, disappointing single-player, and poor optimisation make Battlefield V a difficult day one recommendation.”
