5 Movies That Would Make Amazing TV Shows

Originality is damn hard. Although I’d like to think otherwise, there are probably dozens of similar articles out there like this one. What separates this from the others is a difference in theme and perspective, something which is evident in a lot of the big-screen-to-small-screen adaptations on television right now.

Some are better than the source material (Fargo), others make little sense (From Dusk Til Dawn) and a few are downright awful (Ferris Bueller). Here are my picks for five films that would make a successful transition to the tellybox and make sense at the same time.

1. Sin City

Sin City 2

Probably the most obvious entry on this list and maybe even the least logical considering it’s based on a series of graphic novels. Nevermind that, let’s imagine a gritty black and white world which undoes all of the bad work of Rodriguez’s sequel. It’s doubtful that the A-list cast will make a return but perhaps it will be for the best if there’s nobody around to chew up the scenery.

Why it would work: Plenty of material from the comic books to mine. The Walking Dead proves that it’s possible to improve on the original.

Why it might not happen: Sin City 2 lost $25m at the box office.

2. Source Code

There were definitely a lot of answers that needed answering at the end of the Duncan Jones sci-fi actioner. How does the device actually work? What would the media fallout be like? Why was the ending such a wet fart? A TV adaptation would go long way to filling in some off the gaps and I would not mind seeing Groundhog Day happen on other vehicles apart from a train either.

Why it would work: The premise makes it ideal for a ‘Villain of the Week’situation with a lot of leeway for storylines.

Why it might not happen: Its long-term appeal might not be the greatest. Source Code might be best suited to just a one-off season.
