5 Biggest New Movies Of April 2018

The Avengers Infinity War

March had come as a lion and left as a lamb like the old saying goes, while April brings a bought of new movies with it. Even though the month has already begun, there is yet to be a blockbuster on the big screen. From anxiety-inducing sequels to nearly-silent thrillers, there are plenty of motion pictures to look forward to this upcoming spring at the cinema.

1.  Avengers: Infinity War

Release date: April 27, 2018

The third installation of the Avengers series comes with grim and uneasy themes as the team assembles for one of the final times – and now, as a bigger force. Over time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has gathered heroes and assassins alike to defeat the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) as he proceeds on his crusade for the six scatters Infinity Stones. Avengers: Infinity War is bound to be the “most ambitious crossover event” as the original Avengers band up with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman,) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch,) as well as other cameos, announced or kept hidden until the film is shown. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo warn audiences about deaths of beloved characters, though refuse to announce just who.

2. A Quiet Place

Release date: April 6, 2018

The Office heartthrob John Krasinski has written and directed an eerily unique breed of horror film in A Quiet Place. Though Krasinski has explicitly expressed his utter distaste towards horror movies, ironically, he has created a masterpiece thriller. He co-stars in this fascinating film with wife Emily Blunt, and he and his on-screen family are forced to live in silence while isolated, in fear of being hunted by terrifying threats. Due to the fear that they are confined to, their main source of communication is American Sign Language. Actress Millicent Simmonds, who is featured as the daughter, paves the way for deaf talent as she brings awareness in this psychologically daunting movie.

3.  Blockers

Release date: April 6, 2018

Oh boy. Oh, boys. This exhausting-looking comedy captures the peak of high school and every parent’s post-prom fear: their child losing their virginity. It may depict an unrealistic outlook on highs school, but Blockers does look promising when it comes to the comedy aspect, overlooking the stereotypical plotline of the movie. Ex-WWE star John Cena plays up his acting career as he stars in this wildly outrageous film as the typical “helicopter” father, doing whatever it takes to protect his daughter. He bands with other mothers to oppose any impurities in this cliche coming-of-age farce.

4.  Rampage

Release date: April 13, 2018

This interesting movie places primatologist Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) in the forefront of controlling lifelong gorilla companion “George” as he, and other mutated creatures, are taken over by genetic engineering that has gone wrong. In order to tame these unstoppable beasts that wreak across North America, it falls to Okoye to team up with a genetic engineer as they pursue the cure the monstrosity of an outbreak before the continent is demolished.

5. Ghost Stories

Release date: April 20, 2018

Said to be one of the best British horror films in ages, Ghost Stories makes its way to the United States. Based on the West End play ‘League of Gentlemen,’ a skeptic, amongst his research, happens upon past documented hauntings that are seemingly unexplainable, despite his own beliefs. Filled with gripping themes and paranormal scares, Ghost Stories has been reported to be an intense thriller with a twist.
