5 AEW Wrestlers That Could Join Blackpool Combat Club

Go hard or go home.

The Blackpool Combat Club is quite possibly the most badass sounding faction in recent wrestling history. Since joining All Elite Wrestling, William Regal has brought together the glorious violence of both Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson, two performers that are easily in the conversation for best of our times. It’s safe to say that their alliance is a little odd, but if anyone can make an ‘odd couple’ tag team work, it’s those two.

With a graps legend like Regal behind them, there’s every chance that Blackpool Combat Club could eventually take over the entire promotion, but which other wrestlers could end up standing beside them?

Having a look at the current AEW roster and those that has the potential to one day sign with the brand, here are 5 wrestlers that could potentially join the Blackpool Combat Club.

1. Cesaro/Claudio Castagnoli

Cesaro

Cesaro has been strangely silent since his WWE departure earlier this year. ‘The Swiss Superman’ has arguably been one of the most hotly requested wrestlers to appear in AEW, or anywhere on the indies for that matter. Considering his reputation for being one of the most underrated performers on the planet, the Blackpool Combat Club could be a fantastic place for him to unleash his untapped skillset.

William Regal took to the Talk Is Jericho podcast recently to talk about his final few matches in WWE, with one of them being against Cesaro during his brief stint in NXT. Regal obviously has a tonne of respect for the man that could probably lift Madison Square Garden on his back, so watching him arrive as an All Elite wrestler and stand alongside some heavy-hitters like Mox and Danielson would be a huge credit to his backstage namesake.

Besides, it’s been a while since we’ve seen a no-nonsense Cesaro. Since his days as part of The Bar, Cesaro hasn’t had the chance to throw out some truly lethal uppercuts — Blackpool Combat Club is the perfect place for him to dip back into his heel antics.

2. Chris Hero

Another indie favourite that hasn’t re-emerged since his release, the former ‘Knockout Artist’ Kassius Ohno (better known now as Chris Hero) is a perfect fit for the BCC. Hero has been touted as an almost-someone, who could have been the Roman Reigns of the Shield, and the greatest NXT wrestler to never win a championship. AEW is the ideal place for Hero to return and do what he does best: slam his meaty forearm into someone’s mush.

I’m honestly surprised that Hero hasn’t already signed onto AEW for some sort of backstage role, what with his tenure as one of the top indie stars in America prior to his return to NXT, you’d think that the guys behind All Elite would have done anything they could to bring him and his genius mind for wrestling in as an agent or trainer.

Nevertheless, Hero could still make a huge impact as part of the Blackpool Combat Club, acting as the group’s super-heavyweight slugger that could eventually worm his way into one of the two singles title pictures.

3. Leyla Hirsch

The diminutive Russian brawler, ‘Legit’ Leyla Hirsch has made quite an impact since debuting in AEW, with her most recent accolade coming in the form of an unsuccessful challenge to Jade Cargill’s TBS Championship. Hirsch is on her way to being one of the most popular female acts on the roster, all that’s lacking is just that bit of edge that could take her from being an almost-someone, to a someone.

With a penchant for the MMA-hybrid style, Leyla would fit in perfectly with the likes of Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley, who could tutor her to being a more gritty competitor, the sort of personality that could easily take her into the championship circle.

As far as branching out into the women’s division goes, this is the ideal candidate to represent William Regal’s new faction.

4. Hook

Easily one of the most over acts in AEW right now is Hook. Somehow, someway, Hook became an overnight sensation and has been impressing live audiences ever since with his succinct, brutal performances. Hook finally made it onto a major platform when he defeated QT Marshall at the Revolution Buy-In, setting himself up for hopefully a successful run on Dynamite in the near future.

Now, Hook is currently tethered to Team Taz for obvious reasons, but it’s safe to say that as of writing, that faction is a little dead in the water. Hook should be allowed to branch out on his own, away from his Father’s influence and develop into his own star. Aligning with a group like Blackpool Combat Club could be a fantastic start for Hook, standing next to some huge names to give himself even more credibility in his early days.

Hook will have an incredible 2022 despite who he’s officially stabled with, but putting him with Regal is a surefire way of making him one of the biggest stars in wrestling today.

5. Zack Sabre Jr

An unlikely but absolute dream of an inclusion into the Blackpool Combat Club is Sheppy’s own, Zack Sabre Jr. Hot off of a huge win in the New Japan Cup tournament this past weekend, Sabre Jr. is primed for a massive singles run as part of New Japan’s impressive roster. Having yet to transition through the Forbidden Door and appear for All Elite Wrestling, Sabre is a sure-fire must-get for the promotion who have yet to really nail their UK market.

ZSJ has evolved into one of the best technical wrestlers in the game today, and with matches against the likes of Mox and Danielson already teased by ‘The Technical Wizard’, having him brought in by fellow-Brit brawler, William Regal, would be massive for his star power in All Elite Wrestling.

Again, this is one of the less likely names that might join the BCC, but if he were to jump ship, then he absolutely must exchange numbers with Mr. Regal.
