11 bit studios has unveiled their newest game, The Alters, as part of the PC Gaming Show, and it looks like it may be one of the weirdest, most unique games in some time. Check out the trailer above, in which main character Jan encounters various versions of himself aboard some kind of spaceship.
Here’s the synopsis:
“In The Alters, players will learn that humans are indeed a sum of their choices in the most tangible way. This is the story of Jan Dolski, a simple worker facing circumstances that lead him to a life-changing crossroads. Crash landing on a distant planet, stranded and alone, Jan finds himself in a daunting life and death situation. His only hope for survival is to bring helping hands on board. Not yet understanding the weight of his choice, Jan must create alternate versions of himself if he is to forge ahead.”
The Alters has been in the works for three years and runs on Unreal, but what exactly is it? Well, we’re not sure, but it seems like a choose your own adventure book come to life, except you might be able to go back in time and stop yourself from ever buying that Cyberpunk 2077 chair.
More details will be revealed over time, including a release date, but for now this is and the fact that it’s coming to PC on Steam, EGS and GOG is all we have to go off of. 11 bit is currently also making Frostpunk 2, so the Polish studio have a lot going on right now — here’s hoping it all delivers.
