It’s April, and whether you’re wondering where the first third of the year has gone, or busy stuffing your face with chocolate the Easter Bunny left, it’s undeniably another month further into the year. Luckily, this isn’t always bad news. There are some fantastic books being released, so here are ten April books that deserve your attention.

Irvine Welsh is best known for his debut Trainspotting. Yet, what sets him apart from other authors is that he has built up these characters across other novels. Sometimes, this is direct sequels like Porno, but The Blade Artist shows the return of Francis Begbie. Welsh has been on a string of homeruns recently with books such as The Sex Live of Siamese Twins and A Decent Ride receiving acclaim.

2.What Belongs to You by Garth Greenwell

What belongs to You book

Greenwell’s debut novel, What Belongs To You, follows a romance in Bulgaria that has to be kept in the shadows. An American teaching English encounters something far from romantic, and also extremely heart-breaking, with a male prostitute. We’ve already had a sneak peak at What Belongs To You and can say with certainty that it is a powerful debut novel, and Greenwell might be one to watch for a lifetime.

Before The Walking Dead was adapted into an immensely popular TV show, it was an insanely popular comic. Even though various plot deviations have meant that the TV show isn’t a strict adaptation these days, fans know that Robert Kirkman’s series never disappoints. With the 25th issue, we see Rick’s leadership questioned as he tries to find a safe place for his followers. Expect horror and heartbreak, it’ll be like a beautiful car crash, and you won’t be able to help but look.

The first book written since the authors death, and first in the series not written by Larson, the reception to this book will dictate whether fans will stick with the series. It will almost definitely be a huge financial success, but whether it’s a fair representation of Salander and Blomkvist that everybody knows and loves, has yet to be seen.
