It's like he is actively trying to get time off at this point.

Markiplier, one of YouTube’s most popular gaming personalities, announced last night via Twitter that he has broken his foot.

He simply posted “Might’ve broken my foot” on the social media network before updating fans with “Yeah it’s broke” around an hour later.

After seeing this news, many fans might’ve thought that Markiplier, real name Mark Fischbach, had incurred the injury while filming the sequel to his 2019 YouTube interactive adventure, ‘A Heist with Markiplier’.

Mark announced in November 2020 that A Heist with Markiplier 2 was in full production. For those who haven’t seen it, these interactive adventures are similar to Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, with viewers making decisions on what to do next to progress the story. The main difference being that A Heist with Markiplier sees the viewer take control of an unseen assistant to Mark, making decisions to help or hinder him.

For those who haven’t played it, it’s very entertaining and well worth a look, but it isn’t the first time an interactive adventure has been made via YouTube. Most notably, YouTuber and comedian Mr John Robertson shot to fame after creating The Dark Room back in 2012, and has continued The Dark Room franchise with further videos as well as live shows.

However, it would eventually prove to be something much more mundane that led to Mark’s foot break. Shortly after leaving the hospital, Markiplier streamed a message to his 28.5 million subscribers, in which he told fans that he’d stepped awkwardly on a storm drain, rolling his ankle and breaking at least one bone in his foot.

Mark told the 1.1 million viewers that he had been given the painkiller Tylenol and his foot was now wrapped and he would be on crutches for a while. He didn’t specify whether this would affect the filming of A Heist with Markiplier 2.

This isn’t actually the first time Mark has visited his local hospital in recent times as he’s been in hospital on two previous occasions over the past six months. In October he broke his nose filming for experimental YouTube channel Unus Annus, and in December he suffered a small intestine blockage.

Markiplier is expected to return to his YouTube channel shortly, and everyone here at Cultured Vultures wishes him a speedy recovery.
