Yes, Ryan Reynolds is Really Starring in Detective Pikachu

News recently broke that Ryan Reynolds would be starring in upcoming live-action Pokemon movie Detective Pikachu, and the Internet is having a little bit of trouble digesting this latest casting news.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will be starring as Pikachu himself, claiming that “Reynolds will portray the titular detective”, going on to explain that the role is “motion-capture in nature”. It is unknown yet whether or not he will be voicing everyone’s favourite yellow Pocket Monster as well. Unlike Pikachu’s typical portrayals in the Pokemon video games and anime series, Detective Pikachu is a character who speaks fluent English (well, Japanese, but we’re assuming that the movie will be in English), so the voice actor for Detective Pikachu will end up having a lot more to say than just “Pika Pika!” over and over again.

Meanwhile, fans of actor Danny DeVito were left disappointed at the news, after campaigning for DeVito to take the movie’s titular role:
