After plenty of speculation online, Legendary Pictures has announced that they will officially be moving forward with their plans for a live-action Detective Pikachu movie.

Not much is know about the plot or character details (apart from the fact that Pikachua will almost definitely wear a cute hat), but according to The Hollywood Reporter, production will start at some point next year. Universal Pictures will reportedly distribute the film everywhere apart from Japan where Toho will take the reins.

As opportunistic as it is to try to cash in on the craze that is Pokemon Go, it makes a lot of sense to jump on the bandwagon from a finanical point of view. The free-to-play app is earning absurd amounts of money every day, bringing in half of the entire mobile gaming industry’s revenue.

For anyone who wants to steer clear of Detective Pikachu and absolutely anything to do with with Pokemon, this Chrome plugin will help. It’s probably best if you just accept your fate, though.
